Care Requirements:

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal, similar to its natural tropical rainforest habitat. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. East or north-facing windows are often suitable, or filtered light near south/west-facing windows.
  • Watering: Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot, and do not let the plant sit in standing water.
  • Soil: A well-draining, rich organic mix is recommended. A peat-based soil mix with perlite, orchid bark, and vermicompost or compost is a good option.
  • Temperature & Humidity: Being a tropical plant, it prefers warm temperatures (65°F - 75°F) and high humidity. Misting, humidifiers, or pebble trays can help maintain humidity levels.
  • Fertilizing: During the growing season (spring/summer), feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 1-2 weeks, or use vermicompost weekly and seaweed/Epsom salt monthly.
  • Pests: While generally easy to care for, overwatering can lead to root rot, and aphid and mealy bugs are potential pests.
Growth & Characteristics:
  • Leaves: Long, elongated, heart-shaped leaves with a glossy surface and a distinctive, wavy or rigid texture along the margins as they mature.
  • Petioles: Bright orange to reddish, a prominent feature of this plant.
  • Growth Habit: It is a climbing plant that can grow quite large, with leaves potentially reaching up to 90 cm (about 3 feet) long.
  • Flowering: Produces clusters of white or light green flowers on a single stalk.
